Quick Guide to Flying With Vape Products Posted on 12 Apr 12:10

Nobody looks forward to dealing with the TSA while traveling for vacation, business or otherwise – especially if you’re unsure as to whether brining your vape pen or liquids with cause issues. These guidelines should put your mind at ease, making traveling with your vape products and finding your way through security as smooth as possible.

The FAA prohibits devices in checked baggage. Battery-powered E-cigarettes, vaporizers, vape pens, atomizers, and electronic nicotine delivery systems may only be carried in the aircraft cabin (in carry-on baggage or on your person). Check with your airline for additional restrictions. Remove all electronic cigarette and vaping devices from carry-on bags if checked at the gate or planeside.

If you have ever traveled before you are familiar with the TSA 3-1-1 carry-on rule which basically states that you are permitted to carry on liquids in containers 3.4oz/100ml or smaller, as many as you can fit in 1 clear quart sized bag and only 1 bag per traveler. These rules apply the same to e-liquid which means you are good to go when it comes to traveling with your favorite juices so long as they are less than 100ml and fit with the rest of your liquids in a clear quart sized bag.

As for your batteries, cartridges, clearomizer tanks, and whatever else – unless you’re taking an unreasonable amount, don’t sweat it.

It should also go without saying but avoid using your device while on the plane or inside the airport. There is a time and place and an airport or 39,000 ft in the air are neither.

In short,

  • You can travel with e-cigs on a plane but the FAA has told airlines that lithium ion vape batteries are a fire hazard. Therefore, no e-cigs allowed in checked bags. You must travel with your e-cigs as carry-on.
  • You can travel with e-cigs either on your person or in your carry-on bag.
  • If your carry-on bag must be checked at the gate, you have to remove your e-cigs and any spare batteries before your bag can be checked.
  • E-liquids are allowed in checked bags as long as the meet the 3-1-1 standards

We hope these tips with help make your next adventure much easier and less stressful while traveling with vape products.
